Cultural and Creative Industries as Catalysts for Regional Development: Insights from Centria Projects

Centria University of Applied Sciences positions itself as a regional development actor that mostly impacts the region through digital and technological solutions. Centria organizes an annual foresight seminar (Ennakointiseminaari), and this year the seminar focused on regional attractiveness. One of the key conclusions was that culture and the building of a sense of belonging are just as important as the availability of jobs and educational opportunities.

Climate change is accelerating the phase-out of fossil fuels and the adoption of low carbon alternatives. In Central Ostrobothnia, electricity and heat production already include a significant share of renewable energy, largely because most combined heat and power (CHP) and heat-only plants use biomass as their primary fuel. The region is also experiencing rapid growth in wind and solar projects, strengthening its position in renewable energy deployment.

Lock on laptop as computer protection and cyber safety

The Cybersecurity First Aid Clinic “CyberAkuten” was established as part of the Interreg Aurora project ISSUES to connect experts and non-experts in an informal, hybrid setting across the Swedish-Finnish border. Cybersecurity is essential, but effective communication can be difficult. This article offers reasoning and advice for improving project communication, making it more inclusive, and increasing its appeal. It also encourages everyone to rethink how they communicate and, in doing so, take small but meaningful steps toward greater inclusion and security.

This essay examines how Ansel’s development plan addresses not only environmental objectives but also promotes social equity and cultural accessibility—laying the foundation for long-term, systemic change.
